١. The History of Salut Maroc

Salut Maroc in Essaouira, Morocco, is a stunning reflection of its owner, Helen Howat’s artistic vision. Set in an 18th-century riad in the heart of the Medina, the building was once a merchant’s home and later a consulate before being transformed into a vibrant boutique hotel. Helen discovered the property in 2012 when it was just an empty shell and was drawn to its incredible location by the ramparts overlooking the deep blue sea. Over five years, she worked to bring her vision to life, carefully sourcing antique furniture from around the world and collaborating with local artisans to craft the hotel’s unique interiors.
٢. Salut Matoc’s Artistic Expression
Salut Maroc’s 11 uniquely designed rooms are spread across the first and second floors, each offering a distinctive ambiance inspired by different Moroccan cities and regions. These spaces are a blend of traditional Moroccan artistry and modern luxury, featuring blissful beds, one-of-a-kind vintage pieces, and high painted ceilings.

The Casablanca “Mosaic Trellis” room featured a king-sized bed, a private bathroom, and a copper bathtub. The room’s textiles were distinct, with luxurious yellow tones. It also included a private salon, adorned with a wall of intricate traditional mosaic tile patterns at the entrance. The period furniture, including a chair, chest, and tables, stood out for their elegance. The rooms are filled with vibrant and cultural details, such as the green and white zellige tiles in the Fez room, inspired by the rooftops of the ancient city. In the Marrakesh room, a sunburst pattern echoes the iconic leather-dye vats of the city’s tannery district, while the Palmeraie features art deco patterns reminiscent of fairytale palm trees.

The Berber room showcases a wistful portrait of Princess Aisha alongside tribal-inspired patterns in the lamps and walls.

Maghreb offers a stunning stone-arched harem, now a cozy living area, with shocking pink fabrics adding a bold contrast. Safi, a blues fantasy, spreads calming tones across the bedroom and salon.

For those seeking a sea view, the Mogador room draws inspiration from the ocean and local fishing boats, while both the Boudoir and Tangier rooms feature flamboyant Orientalist-style oil paintings. Tangier also offers a private sitting area, and the largest room, Casablanca, overlooks the ramparts and showcases traditional Moroccan tilework across two rooms.
Beyond the stunning designs, all rooms include thoughtful amenities such as bathrobes, hairdryers, safe boxes, toiletries, and WiFi, ensuring a comfortable and immersive stay. The combination of these artisanal elements and modern luxuries makes Salut Maroc a vibrant and dynamic hub for creative minds, art lovers, and design enthusiasts.
