Dubai Design Week

The upcoming Dubai Design Week will be a celebration of design

The Dubai Design Week is set to return on November 7, 2023, and will go on till the 12th. It will be the region’s largest design festival, and will engage more than 500 participants from over 40 countries. Whilst Dubai Design Week is free to attend, in response to the devastating events occurring in Gaza, visitors to Downtown Design will be asked to pay an entrance fee of AED 25. The total funds raised will be matched by the Art Dubai Group and donated to Emirates Red Crescent to support the many innocent civilians affected by this tragedy.

Dubai Design Week is held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It will host a reimagined programme, bringing together both internationally acclaimed and emerging designers to curate and exchange ideas, inspire audiences, and showcase the potential of good design. This will be done through thought-provoking installations, exhibitions, talks and workshops that explore topics shaping today’s global narrative. Other mediums include commissions, pop-ups, and a weekend market.

The extravaganza will be set within Dubai Design District (d3) and at Downtown Design, the Middle East’s leading fair for contemporary design. It will focus on a range of design disciplines, including architecture, product design, interiors and multimedia.

The ABWAB feature focuses on the commissioning of work from across the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia to highlight regional creative talent and stimulate cultural exchange. The event will have an urban commission, an annual design competition inviting designers and architects to help develop outdoor furniture with responsible design as the theme. Installations by leading and emerging designers, architects, and brands will demonstrate the scope of great design.

The festival will also foster debate and discussion over design ideas among those in attendance. There will be a fair for contemporary and quality design from November 8 to November 11, featuring the latest collections and design products. This year’s roster of speakers at The Forum will be speaking on topics revolving around the Middle East’s design industry. The speakers include global trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort, fashion designer Ozwald Boateng OBE, influential designer Ross Lovegrove, coveted interior designer Nina Magon, and iconic designer and architect Giulio Cappellini. Joining a series of panel discussions throughout the week will be key influencers of the region’s fast-evolving creative scene, including architects Wael Al Awar, Sumaya Dabbagh and Ahmed Bukhash, and designer duo David/Nicolas.

In addition, workshops will be held for visitors of all ages to inspire and stimulate, and will be hosted by professors, expert facilitators and creative practitioners. Finally, a marketplace of handcrafted goods and sustainably sourced products by artisans and small businesses will be there from November 11-12.
