It’s set to commence on 1st October 2023.

The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has announced the inaugural Dubai Calligraphy Biennale to commemorate calligraphy’s role in Arab heritage and artistry. The event will begin on October 1, 2023, and run for the entire month.

The Biennale will feature over 200 artists, both local and international, showcasing a wide range of calligraphy styles. In addition to 15+ exhibitions, the event will feature artworks in more than eight languages across 20 venues in Dubai, covering both traditional and contemporary art styles. Aside from calligraphy, attendees can also expect jewellery, product design, public sculptures, textiles, and more as artistic mediums.

Over 100 sessions and workshops will be presented by renowned calligraphers, artists, and experts, offering attendees a comprehensive look into the world of calligraphy.

The CEO of Dubai Culture’s Arts & Literature Sector, Dr Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, stressed the importance of calligraphy to Arab and international cultures saying, “calligraphy is a unique art, due to the nature of its geometry, details, and various forms. In recent years, calligraphy has become a visual art type, and Dubai Culture has ensured to embrace this art form by implementing a set of programmes, projects, and forums that celebrate calligraphy and well-known calligraphers, in line with its commitment to support artists and talent in this field.”

Dubai Culture has also welcomed new partners supporting the event, including Dubai Expo City, Mohammed bin Rashid Library, Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation, DIFC Gate Avenue, Boccara Gallery, and AWC Art World Creations.
