Dior

The show’s unique designs bringing the world of ballet and the art of couture together.

Dior is organizing an exceptional new collaboration with principal dancer Eleonora Abbagnato around the ballets Nuit Romaine and Nuit Dansée, continuing the initiative started by Nuit Blanche in 2019. It will be presented at Dubai Opera on May 25 and 26, 2024. It follows in the vein of Christian Dior and Maria Grazia Chiuri’s passionate love for living art.

Revealed in 2022 in the form of a film choreographed and directed by Angelin Preljocaj, Nuit Romaine is set in the Palzzo Farnese, which is the home of the French Embassy in Italy. Inside the rooms of the location, the dancers hold dialogue with Nox, the Goddess of the Night. Dior transformed each space into a narrative showcase to highlight the many talents of the work. Nuit Dansée, meanwhile, is a tribute to the brilliance of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma artists through a poetic story that speaks in the glorious language of dance, through the lens of choreographer Giorgio Mancini.

Dior’s artisanship, combined with that of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma ateliers and the guidance of Maria, is key in their designing of garments. The House’s principles are symbolized by encrusted lace, sumptuous beading and palettes of colour that all shape the theatrical looks.

The costumes are painted with a trompe-l’œil effect and feature characters from the frescoes of the Carracci gallery, which grace the vaulted ceiling. Through this artistry, clothing becomes a temporal link between the past, present and future, while translating the alchemical cultural connections between France and Italy. This event will be the first performance of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in the United Arab Emirates, and will celebrate the powerful alchemy and affinities that bring the world of ballet and the art of couture together.
