Embrace the cultural aspect of the National Day long weekend

As the UAE gears up for its 52nd National Day, there is much positivity in the air. The upcoming long weekend offers residents the chance to enjoy three days with their loved ones and join the country in celebrating the occasion. They can bask in the rich history and culture that have shaped its sands into the bustling hub of excellence it is today.

There are plenty of cultural events taking place across the seven Emirates this long weekend. Through this edition of KHAMSA Discover, explore the most culturally-significant events taking place from Friday to Monday.

١. Al Maryah Island Photo Exhibition

On December 2-3, head to Al Maryah Island for a spectacular firework display, with fine-dining restaurants within the area providing great views of the sky. However, the main highlight will be the photo exhibition at the Galleria Al Maryah island, held in association with the Abu Dhabi National Library and Archives. This exhibition will allow visitors to learn much about the UAE’s rich heritage, traditions, and culture through a selection of fine photographs. Those going to Al Maryah Island on National Day will also get the chance to witness a police parade at 4:00 pm.

٢. Hussain Al Jassmi concert

Three Emirati stars will be performing at the Etihad Arena on December 1, 2023. Leading the lineup will be Hussain Al Jassmi, judge of ‘The X Factor Arabia’ and the musician who has given the world tunes like Boshret Kheir and Bab Rizq. He will be having the entire crowd in attendance grooving to his beats, along with singer Balqees and singer-actress Ahlam. The night holds the promise of a captivating blend of national songs and smashing hits from these extraordinary Emirati superstars, transporting the audience to a magical realm befitting the occasion.

٣. Rove Hotels and Frying Pan Adventures Tour

Rove Hotels and Frying Pan Adventures are jointly conducting a tour that celebrates the UAE’s history this National Day. Participants will get a taste of Old Dubai at its finest, traversing the creek in an Abra. The experience includes strolls through old alleys, interactions with local artists, and sampling of traditional dishes.

٤. Royal Tearoom’s Emirati Afternoon Tea Experience

The Royal Tearoom at Atlantis The Royal is hosting the UAE’s first-ever Emirati afternoon tea experience during this National Day long weekend. With eminent pastry chef Christophe Deville at the helm, the refined afternoon tea will be accompanied by a plethora of other dishes and delicacies, like Emirati date syrup, Khanfaroosh with local mountain honey, and Halawet El Jibn composed of ashta cheese. Visitors can walk in any day from 2 to 5 pm.

٥. Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital falconry tour

During this long weekend, you can visit the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital and learn the ancient art of falconry. The falcon is the national bird of the UAE, which makes it a symbol of the country’s timeless and illustrious history. You can learn how falcons are raised and protected, and why they are held in high regard in the region.
