KHAMSA picks out five must-see installations that will be exhibited at the Dubai Design Week.
١. Moon Vignettes by Babnimnim Design Studio for Cosentino
The Moon Gate, a magical architectural feature from Eastern traditions, is given a modern twist in Moon Vignettes, a lively installation by Kuwait’s Babnimnim Design Studio (BNN) for Cosentino, a leader in architectural surfaces. The traditional moon-shaped gateway is reimagined as circular, freestanding structures that seem to rise from the ground. Representing the cycles of life, these abstract moon gates also highlight the “circular” qualities of Cosentino’s eco-friendly materials, Silestone and Dekton, which are used to cover walls and floors. The installation showcases Cosentino’s large slabs as key design elements, not just as coverings.
Moon Vignettes embraces simple yet elegant design, combining three main features: tall rectangular walls, circular openings, and detailed wooden joinery. The installation is visually interesting, with earthy colours and textures that mix fluted, matte, high-gloss, and suede finishes. As you walk through, the view through the moon gates keeps changing, making each scene more captivating than the last. The open design allows for easy movement in all directions, offering a variety of perspectives both inside and out.

DEOND will present ‘Enfold’, a Phy-gital art installation, at the Dubai Design Week. It is a sustainable installation that explores the notion Circadian architecture and the holistic embrace of body and technology.
The installation will combine biomimicry with sustainability. Crafted from 3D printed fabrics, corrugated cardboard, its circular design symbolizes the unity of body, mind, and technology, with a perforated roof that filters natural light throughout the day.

٤. ‘Material Witnesses and Narrating Lifeforms’ by Miriam Hillawi Abraham

The artist interprets coral stone as a personification of life and death, and spotlights the relationship humand have with nature. The installation uses materials like wax, tulle, and salt, featuring a coral stone wall with beeswax copies that melt over time.
٥. ‘Breton’ by DIPIUGI

Breton, Brazil’s top luxury furniture brand, teams up with Sawsan Chammas Haber, the Founder and Creative Director of DIPIUGI, to showcase an installation at Downtown Design that blends the energy of Brazilian design with a Middle Eastern influence.
Sawsan brings her signature style, known for clean lines, neutral colors, and a hint of luxury, to Breton’s booth. The standout feature is the eye-catching roof made of overlapping wooden slats and a modern take on the traditional mashrabiya pattern.
At the center of the booth is the Mantiqueira table, designed by famous architect Fernanda Marques. Inspired by Brazil’s landscapes, the table features elegant, curved shapes and high-quality materials. Surrounding it is a selection of carefully chosen furniture made from native wood and marble, highlighting Breton’s commitment to both functional art and sustainability.
