An overview of Miuccia Prada’s and Raf Simon’s latest Menswear collection.

From the music to the catwalk, the Prada SS24 runway atmosphere is hauntingly reminiscent of Stanley Kubrick. Amid the presentation, irregular slime lines cascaded down, creating a barrier between the models and the attendees as the slime settled into pale green puddles. You could look but not touch – the show seemingly conveyed that sentiment throughout.

Building upon the prevailing theme of fluidity in fashion, Prada presents its own interpretation, showcasing sharp tailoring with a subtle touch of fun. But that fun still maintains stoic limitations. That’s not to say that this collection is restricted; it simply plays a visual tug of war. Even when it incorporates gentle angles, the clothing’s tailoring is precise, giving its wearer a menacing aura. Instead of evoking relaxation, Prada’s minimalist aesthetic provokes tension. The fringed tops, with their subtle movements, possess a hypnotic quality as they gracefully follow the body’s contours. The tops adorned with delicate pastel flowers, placed strategically on the chest, invite onlookers to come closer, but never too close for comfort.

The shoes themselves deserve attention, with their sleek and shiny appearance that almost seems polished enough to wipe away any trace of blood. Perhaps it’s my own personal fascination with the stylized and satirical villains portrayed in films like American Psycho, but I can’t help but draw a connection between those character traits and the persona Prada has crafted this season.

While the garments exude a weightless quality, they possess a remarkable essence. They embody an introspective character with many stories to tell. On a lighter note, they effortlessly blend intelligence, casualness, and comfort. In many ways, be it the clothes or the set design, Prada SS24 tells us that even fluidity – in all its manifestations – craves form.
