At the Riyadh Fashion Week, adidas will unveil their Spring-Summer 2025 Sportswear Collection, and do it in sync with Kaf by Kaf, the local brand backed by Saudi designer Kawthar Alhoraish. Kawthar is a designer who is well-versed with the Saudi Arabian fashion design scene, with her work merging her cultural heritage with the wonders of the rest of the world. The show, which takes place on October 16 at KAFD, is set to be a major milestone for both parties.
Ahead of the event, KHAMSA chatted to Kawthar on a variety of topics to draw in her thoughts.
١. Can you tell us about how the collaboration happened and how you combined your vision with adidas’ style?

“The partnership with adidas was a natural fit for me. As a designer, I’ve always been passionate about telling stories and empowering Saudi creativity through my work, and I believe that adidas has the same vision. Hence, I saw this as an opportunity to showcase my talent on a global stage.
“The collection emphasizes versatility with unisex pieces, inspired by iconic garments such as abayas and headscarves. It incorporates modern elements while maintaining the essence of traditional designs, offering a range of stylish options from comfortable loungewear to performance attire. I am very proud of the work that was put in and the belief that the brand had in me.”

٢. Inspiration can come from anywhere. What sparked your creativity while working on this collection?

“Growing up in Saudi Arabia, I was immersed in where we are now, seeing how lifestyle and sport are merging in fashion. Hence, the global collection with adidas plays a key role in ensuring that we meet the needs of both athletes and fashion-forward individuals.
“In addition, I was able to add a surprise twist through diverse one-of-a-kind art pieces that celebrate the rich culture of football within the Kingdom. By incorporating Kaf by Kaf DNA, colours, and textures, and some of adidas’ key football partners, I aimed to pay homage to our love of football while also creating designs that resonated with our consumers.”
٣. Can you talk about how you have incorporated specific Saudi elements into design or colour palettes?

“One of the key elements I incorporated into the collection was the colour green, as it represents many things that tie back to Saudi Arabia. I also drew inspiration from the country’s rich patterns and textiles. These elements, often characterized by embroidery and bold colours, added a sense of authenticity and richness to the designs. By combining artistic elements with modern aesthetics, I aimed to create a collection that was both versatile and modern.”

٤. As your brand grows, what are your hopes for the future? How do you see your designs making an impact on the global fashion scene while staying connected to your roots?

“My plans for the future are definitely big and ambitious. While I don’t have a detailed roadmap, I know one thing for sure: there’s no limit to my creativity. I’m constantly exploring new ideas and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
“One of my primary goals is to continue telling stories through my designs, I believe that fashion has the power to connect people and inspire change. By staying true to my roots, I hope to contribute to a more diverse and inclusive global fashion scene.
“Preserving the art of Saudi culture is another important mission for Kaf by Kaf. I want to ensure that these traditions are not only celebrated, but also accessible to a wider audience.”
