KHAMSA sat down with Duha Bukadi ( @worldofduha on Instagram) to explore the story behind DUHA, from its origins in luxury hotel design to its transformation into a pioneering fashion house. We delved into her inspirations, the creative process, and the vision that continues to shape the brand’s future.

١. Born in Tunisia and raised across the globe, you’ve experienced so many cultures firsthand. How have these diverse influences shaped not just your design philosophy, but also who you are as a person and a creator?

“My name is Duha Bukadi. I like to call myself a citizen of the world, I’ve lived in various countries and places which truly opened my mind and spirit to different synergies. I’m a mom, a dreamer at times and somewhat of an idealist. I like curves and volumes, I see beauty in our surroundings and that’s what fills me with tremendous inspiration.”

٢. Your journey began in luxury hotel design before shifting to fashion. What was the defining moment that led you to create DUHA, and how do your architectural roots influence your approach to shoe design?

“Indeed, I initially started as an architect but I’ve always had a serious fascination for footwear. You could say my architectural background influences our shapes and volumes in ways that are very spontaneous and organic actually, we truly try to encapsulate the freedom and grandeur of architecture through our designs. I’m also very grounded in my approach to design, so we’re somewhere between extravagance and sleekness. I like balance.”

٣. DUHA shoes are made to be lived in, not just admired. How do you balance style, structure, and comfort to ensure each piece transitions effortlessly from day to night, boardroom to city streets?

“At DUHA we’re very focused on the design aspect of the shoe itself and we’re truly committed to offering designs that feel novel yet not totally out of our comfort zone (although we have some riskier styles coming). Comfort isn’t something we compromise on and we believe the girl rocks the shoe, not the contrary. Our styles offer a variety of styles, from statement mules to sleek sandals and sharper pumps. They’re truly made to be a companion throughout the day and bring ease to your daily dressing habits while remaining chic and ‘à la page’ as we say.”

٤. You’ve chosen Dubai as the heart of your brand’s development. How has the city’s dynamic energy and global influence shaped DUHA’s identity and creative process?

“A lot, the dynamism of the city is truly the essence of our shoe. It’s at the epicentre of our creations actually, not only in the look and feel of it but we try to apply that dynamism to the way we communicate, interact with our community and exchange. Our goal is to be a step ahead, but we don’t aim to be revolutionary. We’re just doing things we believe in, authenticity is key for us and we hope to achieve that all across the world.”

٥.With plans to expand into bags, eyewear, jewellery, and ready-to-wear, how do you see DUHA evolving as a brand? What can we expect from your upcoming collections?

“Just like a woman would, DUHA explores the versatility of a woman’s vestiaire and naturally expansion is something that’s in the cards for us. We want the brand to be a safe space for innovation, but also an easy option for those who truly align with our values and ethos. We’re big believers in individuality, that’s our collective strength after all. Expect some sharp shapes, some interesting volumes, some retro-chic with hints of futurism.”

٦. DUHA is not just about creating footwear but also about supporting emerging designers across the region. How do you envision DUHA as a resource for the next generation of creatives, and what steps are you taking to make that a reality?

“We are very collaborative, whether it’s our team members, the people we work with and who we simply surround ourselves with. We want people to feel empowered by DUHA and we want to be empowered by the many creative minds that make our world. We often say ‘If you want to go fast, go alone, If you want to go far go together’ and that pretty much sums up our next steps. We’re looking to foster a true, authentic and credible creative community.”
