Palatine, the latest fragrance from Parfums de Marly, draws inspiration from an iconic 18th-century figure to deliver a scent that challenges conventions. Inspired by Elizabeth Charlotte of Bavaria, affectionately known as “La Palatine,” this fragrance embodies the audacious spirit of a woman who defied societal norms and embraced her singularity at the Château de Marly. Through a blend of tradition and technology, Palatine celebrates the power of self-expression.

Elizabeth Charlotte, Princess Palatine, was no ordinary member of the French royal court. As the sister-in-law to Louis XIV, she stood out for her unapologetic independence and love of Enlightenment ideals. Refusing to conform to the rigid expectations of her time, she found freedom and joy in the secluded Château de Marly, where only the king’s closest companions were welcome. Her witty letters and unconventional behaviour left a lasting impression on history, making her the perfect muse for this new olfactory creation.

Julien Sprecher, the founder of Parfums de Marly, sought to reimagine the violet petal, a floral note often associated with tradition, as the heart of a contemporary fragrance.

“Princess Palatine was an offbeat, modern figure, in her, I see the same qualities that today’s liberated women embody—fearless self-expression.”

– Julien Sprecher

Palatine’s violet note is anything but traditional. Captured using Firmenich’s Natureprint technology, the delicate essence of violet petals is preserved without disturbing its natural environment, bringing a sweet, tart allure to the fragrance that feels playful yet sophisticated.

Palatine’s fragrance journey begins with a fresh, fruity top notes mandarin, bergamot, and pear before transitioning into its heart, where violet petal and lavandin, a hybrid of lavender varieties, take centre stage. The interplay of traditionally masculine lavandin with the feminine violet creates a daring juxtaposition, enhancing the scent’s complexity. As the fragrance evolves, its warm, velvety base notes of sandalwood, patchouli, musk, and vanilla linger, leaving a luxurious trail that defines refined elegance of the Château de Marly.

Palatine doesn’t just tell the story of a historic figure, it invites its wearer to embrace their own unique identity. The fragrance, available in a sleek 75ml flacon, debuts on September 23, 2024, with an exclusive early release on September 10 in Parfums de Marly boutiques and online. The bottle has been reinterpreted in transparent violet glass, a bold choice that mirrors the fragrance’s message of creative freedom and self-confidence.

Palatine stands as an embodiment of haute parfumerie’s daring spirit an invitation to revel in your individuality and celebrate the audacity of being yourself.
