Chanel’s Cruise Collection Makes Waves in the South of France

Marseille’s skyline became the backdrop for Chanel‘s latest Cruise collection 2024/2025. Virginie Viard, the house’s creative director, staged the show on the rooftop of the Cite Radieuse, a landmark apartment complex designed by the legendary architect Le Corbusier between 1947 and 1952.

This collection is a conversation starter, a bold departure from the usual glitzy settings that typify luxury fashion. Chanel’s Cruise collection takes a dramatic turn, setting the stage for a show unlike any other.

Themes & Motifs of the CHANEL Cruise collection

The Chanel Cruise 2024/25 collection represents a departure from conventional luxury standards and an adoption of diversity, relevance, and modernity. The brand aims to appeal to a wider audience by moving beyond its historical image. Bruno Pavlovsky, Chanel’s fashion president, is leading this effort. Chanel sends a clear message of rejecting tradition and elitism by selecting unexpected locations like Marseille for its runway shows. This highlights the brand’s commitment to staying ahead of the fashion industry and remaining relevant in a constantly changing landscape.

Virginie Viard, the Maison’s creative director, chose Marseille as the location for this year’s cruise, atop Cité Radieuse, Le Corbusier’s 337-apartment “vertical village.” The building, with its unique facade of colorful circuit-board graphics, was constructed in response to the postwar housing shortage in the city and has become a landmark. Viard highlights, that there is a “very strong sense of freedom … and of everyday life” in Marseille.
