Exploring how the region is observing Pinktober

Pinktober, also known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is a campaign that aims to spread awareness about breast cancer. Women’s health charities and local organizations all contribute to the cause, with the month being instrumental in educating the masses.

People living in the UAE have commemorated Pinktober over the years through many innovative ways. It is no different this year, with many organizations, brands, and other places coming up with some great initiatives. KHAMSA explores some of them and how they plan on embracing these 31 days of pink.

١. ME Dubai Hotel’s MEforHER

ME Hotel Dubai has teamed up with the prestigious Al Jalila Foundation on the occasion of Pinktober. They have jointly launched the MEforHER initiative, which comes with two great offers that allow people to contribute to the noble cause.

The first one is ‘Wellness by ME’, wherein the hotel’s spa will donate AED 50 for every ME Signature massage booked throughout October. The second offer can be availed at Central Restaurant, which will be donating AED 10 for every business lunch booked during October. This is around 10% of the price of the meal

٢. Sharjah Ladies Club’s hair donation campaign

Sharjah Ladies Club will collaborate with Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) to do their bit for Pinktober. They are offering complementary haircuts and blow-drying sessions as part of their hair donation drive. These will be held at their famous Orchid Beauty Boutique.

SLC is also hosting a special event on October 26, in association with BRAE. They will conduct informative sessions about breast cancer and offer complementary haircuts for donors.

٣. Fairmont Bab Al Bahr’s free yoga sessions

Fairmont Bab Al Bahr will team up with VOLT Fitness to organize free yoga sessions for ladies at the beach. These will happen every Thursday throughout Pinktober. In a sweet little addition, they have also made their entire lobby pink to honour the occasion.

٤. Umm Al Emarat Park’s screening camps

Umm Al Emarat Park is hosting a fitness and wellness program. They will draw attention to the benefits of early detection and stress on the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Beginning on October 9, they offer a variety of outdoor activities like yoga and MMA classes at the Amphitheatre from 5pm to 6pm. Ladies have the option of indoor sweat classes.

There will also be other initiatives like a blood donation drive on October 19 from 4 pm to 9 pm. The following two days will see a Pink October Walkathon starting at 5 pm is also planned. Both days will also see SEHA host a Breast Cancer Awareness booth, which will offer free mammogram checkups throughout the evening, There will also be a session where breast cancer survivors narrate their courageous stories to the guests in attendance.

٥. St. Regis Downtown’s pink-themed special

The St Regis. Downtown is joining the Pinktober celebrations with plenty of pink treats for customers to enjoy. In addition to the usual happy hour, two of their restaurants, namely Hayal and BASTA!, will be hosing an additional ‘pink hour’ every day from 5 pm to 7 pm throughout the month of October. The menu will be headlined by ‘Paint it Pink’, a pink cocktail starting from AED 38. For every purchase of the drink, St Regis. Downtown will donate AED 5 to support the battle against breast cancer.

The hotel will also host a pink-themed afternoon tea party every day, glittered with all kinds of pink desserts and pastries. Any purchase of these will result in them donating AED 5. The luxury spa at the hotel joins the celebrations with their complimentary pink-themed hand, face, or foot mask as part of all 90-minute massage sessions.

٦. Al Jalila Foundation’s Dubai Pink Ride

Al Jalila Foundation is merging Pinktober and the Dubai Fitness Challenge into a great activity. On October 29 at 7 am, gather outside Dubai Design District (d3) for Dubai Pink Ride, held in partnership with Dubai Sports Council. You can choose between a 15 km ride or a 4 km walk along the Dubai Canal. There will also be some family activities that aim to educate and spread awareness regarding breast cancer.
