Think safety, think pink!

Pinktober is an annual campaign held every October to raise awareness about breast cancer. The colour pink, a symbol of breast cancer awareness, is widely used in ribbons, merchandise, and decorations—giving rise to the name “Pinktober.”

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women, with 1 in 8 women being diagnosed in their lifetime. In the UAE, the average age of diagnosis is notably 10 years younger than in other parts of the world, highlighting the urgent need for ongoing research to advance treatment and save lives.

Globally observed each October, Pinktober aims to boost awareness, raise funds, and drive research into prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and ultimately, a cure. During this time, individuals, businesses, and organizations host charity events, fundraisers, walks, and educational seminars, with proceeds typically supporting research and patient care services.

Whether you’re joining a local event, donating, or simply showing support through pink ribbons, this month offers a chance to make a meaningful difference. The UAE has always been a leader in Pinktober initiatives, with offers and events on board. Khamsa brings you a selection of ones worth exploring.

The Pink Caravan campaign, organized by the Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP), is an important effort to raise awareness about breast cancer and promote early detection. During October, the campaign sends over 100 mobile clinics across the UAE, including in Dubai, offering free breast cancer screenings and exams.

The Pink Caravan also provides medical services and educates people through workshops. These workshops teach individuals how to recognize early signs of breast cancer and highlight the importance of regular check-ups. By combining free health checks with education, the Pink Caravan is an important part of Pinktober, by posing as a driving force to educate and alert as much as they can!
