Surf, Spice & Slow Time: An Escape To Mauritius & Rodrigues

Mauritius really knows how to welcome you: with warm trade winds, sunnier-than-sunny smiles, and that deep-blue Indian Ocean that keeps pulling you back in. We touched down on a sunny September day and the island promptly put us in “holiday mode.” The stay was split between two sister properties with two very different moods: the buzzy beachfront energy of C Mauritius in Palmar, and the soulful rhythm of C Rodrigues—Mourouk.

Together, they felt like two chapters of the same island novel: one lively and playful; the other quiet, raw, and beautifully real.

C Mauritius: Play, Plates & Poolside Vibes

Evening one was all about easy comfort: a generous buffet at the Dining Room and an early night to shake off travel. Morning broke with a long breakfast and a guided tour led by Catherine (I.C.O Sales), and that’s when C’s personality clicked. The brand is playful by design: sports nooks, casual hangouts, and spontaneous “let’s-do-this” moments dotted across the resort. It’s the kind of place where families, groups of friends, and couples all find their groove without trying too hard.

Rooms follow the same philosophy: bright, beach-easy spaces with terraces or balconies and all the mod cons, split between Prestige (40 m²) and roomier Deluxe (48 m²) categories, including coveted beachfront options and a couple of accessibility-equipped rooms for peace of mind.

We loved that the All-Inclusive plan starts on arrival and runs until 15:00 on departure—meals, selected cocktails, a 50-plus-label wine list, and a daily-refilled minibar all wrapped in. Between meals, the resort turns into a playground: three pools, padel and tennis, a clubhouse of beach games, and free kayaks, SUPs, snorkel gear and windsurfing right off the sand, with diving, kitesurfing and yoga available if you want to dial things up. Golfers can sneak off to the Legend and Links 18-hole courses at Constance Belle Mare Plage.

We veered off-itinerary for a mini-adventure: a west-coast road trip to Tamarin, where the ocean turned into a stage for dolphins and whales—pure magic. Back at the hotel, the day melted into a beach picnic, a blissful full-body treatment at C Spa, and an Asian-fusion dinner at Wok ’n Roll with Marine (Communications). The next morning, we dipped into a kitesurf initiation, before one more buffet lunch and wheels-up for part two. If you love spirited resorts with locally inspired food, social spaces, and a choose-your-own-fun menu—from SUP to DJ nights—C Mauritius is your place.

C Rodrigues—Mourouk: Barefoot & Beautifully Slow

Rodrigues sits about 650 km east of Mauritius, and it immediately feels different—quieter, wilder, more intimate. I checked into C Rodrigues—Mourouk and eased into the island mood.

The next day, a boat whisked us to Île aux Chats/Crustacea for a gentle walk among coastal flora and a beach-grilled lunch—fresh fish, fresh everything. Back at the hotel, Vanessa (Front Office) showed us around; later, another relaxed buffet at Sails.

Days find their rhythm quickly. Breakfast and dinner bookend at Sails, while Salty Cabri Beach Shack runs the show by day—lunch, snacks, tea time and, with a reservation, dinner right on the beach—plus a bar for golden-hour sips; The Bar stays open into the evening for the post-adventure debrief.

Day three delivered the showstopper: C Trek, a 12 km hike crossing sand, scrub, cliffside and those cinematic turquoise vistas, ending with lunch at Constance Tekoma. Aperitif and a hosted dinner with Meliza (Sales & Quality) sealed the mood. On my last morning, I browsed Port Mathurin’s market and visited a Turtle Sanctuary—small moments that ground the journey. I also loved the property’s sustainability pulse: coral-planting with the Bluer Ocean Project, plastic reduction, solar energy, and a gentle invitation to tread lighter. Rooms range from Prestige categories to beachfront Deluxe and spacious villas—with exactly what you need and nothing that gets in the way of the sea.

Two Islands, One Love Story

If C Mauritius is your social butterfly—colorful, energetic, and deliciously active—C Rodrigues—Mourouk is the poet you meet later: slower, sincere, and quietly unforgettable. Back-to-back, they make the perfect island duet. Come for the sun and the spice; stay for the dolphins at dawn, cliff walks that reset your brain, and the simple joy of sand between your toes. I left with salt in my hair and a promise to return—always a good sign.
