Welcome to Jeddah—where the Red Sea meets red-hot energy. This coastal Saudi gem is more than just a pit stop—it’s a city that blends ancient souks with futuristic skylines, coral houses with chrome. And this weekend? It’s in full throttle. With Formula 1 taking over the Corniche, Jeddah is buzzing—fast cars, late-night art shows, and enough waterfront views to make you miss your flight home. Whether you’re here for the race, the culture, or just for fun, this guide has everything you need to explore Jeddah like a local—with style, flavor, and no speed limits.

This week, KHAMSA explores Jeddah with Nujoud Oweid (@nujoudoweis on Instagram) a Jordanian multidisciplinary creative based in Jeddah, with a background in Textile Design from Central Saint Martins. Her work spans fashion, storytelling, spatial design, events, and performance—always guided by a deep sensitivity to color, texture, and space. Formerly at YUNG Magazine and now Director Deputy and creative lead for the Events Team at the Islamic Arts Biennale with Black Engineering, she crafts emotionally resonant, visually striking experiences rooted in cultural depth and modern expression.

As a content creator and actress (Al Rawabi School for Girls, Season 2), Nujoud champions bold self-expression for Middle Eastern women—using fashion as a language of confidence and identity. Her time in Jeddah has been a creative flow, inspired by the rhythm of the sea, where nature, movement, and artistry converge in every part of her evolving journey.

I’m going to approach this question a little differently by sharing my favourite beaches and activities—because the sunsets here are incredible , and these experiences have become such a big part of my life in Jeddah.

La Mer Beach

Known for its stunning sunsets and golden tans, but most of all, its incredible diving centre. If you’re not into diving, snorkeling is also an option, offering a glimpse into some of the most beautiful reefs.

And my all-time favourite way to watch the sunset is by driving along the coast, finding a raw, untouched beach spot, and sitting on a rock to simply take it all in.

Best boutique hotels to stay in?

Beit Jokhdar – Al Balad

Hands down the most beautiful boutique stay in Jeddah. Though I live in an apartment, I often stop by for a coffee in their charming reception. The rooms are cozy and exquisitely designed, and the in-house Michelin-starred restaurant is absolutely worth the visit.

Underrated places?

Since my work is quite demanding, I usually plan my outings carefully—so I haven’t stumbled upon anything underrated just yet. Jeddah is full of cool spots, and the places I’ve visited have all been recommended by locals. Luckily, no hidden gems missed so far!

What should you avoid?

Traffic can get intense, so try to plan your movements outside peak hours. As long as you’re mindful of the culture—like wearing an abaya when needed—Jeddah is a smooth and welcoming place to explore. I haven’t encountered anything too hectic!

Must-Pack Items for Jeddah?

  • Kimonos / Abayas – Easy to throw on and always chic.
  • Beach Bag – A spacious tote for all your essentials.
  • Cute Bathing Suits – For beach days and poolside lounging.
  • Light Linens – Breathable and perfect for the heat.
  • SPF & Sunglasses – Absolute musts – the sun here doesn’t play.
  • Moisturising Lip Balm & Body Lotion – Keep your skin hydrated in the dry heat.
  • Tanning Oil or Balm – For that signature Jeddah glow.

Any tips and tricks to tackle the city?

  • Have a car – It’s the main mode of transportation, and getting around without one can be tricky.
  • Keep a kimono or abaya on hand – It’s a respectful nod to the culture and always good to have just in case.
  • Pack a ready-to-go beach bag – You never know when you’ll come across a hidden beach or a cute seaside spot on your way home.
