Milan is where fashion, culture, and Italian flair collide. A city that moves fast yet savors every moment, it’s home to luxury maisons, cutting-edge design, and the kind of effortless style only Italians can master. Beyond the fashion week runways and glossy storefronts of Via Montenapoleone, Milan offers hidden courtyards, buzzing aperitivo spots, and a rich history woven into its streets. Whether you’re here for the couture, the coffee, or the culture, Milan is a city that keeps you inspired at every turn!

This week, I’m taking over KHAMSA’s travel guide because, well, Milan is the city that has my heart—so who better to show you around?

If you don’t know me yet, I’m Yara Ghauch (@yaraghauch26 on Instagram), a Beirut-based fashion stylist, creative consultant, and the proud founder of Venus in Scorpio, where I’m putting a fresh, cool spin on crochet. My world is all about mixing maximalism with minimalism, creating cool & unique visuals for top brands and publications across the region. Whether it’s curating & styling campaigns or crafting editorials, I live for storytelling through style. And now, as KHAMSA’s new Digital Editor, I’m bringing my vision to your screens. Buckle up—Milan, here we go!

Top must-visit food spots?

Dal Bolognese – “Perfect for a romantic dinner, order the Tagliolini al Ragù di Culatello di Zibello – if weather permits, book a table on the terrace”.

Trattoria Madonnina – “Super authentic lunch spot in the heart of Milan”.

Trattoria Del Pescatore – “For fish lovers! They have the best Spaghetti alle Vongole I’ve ever had! Make sure to book a table before going”.

La Prosciutteria – “Best spot for aperitivo with a group of friends. Super generous cheese and charcuterie boards, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!”

Gelateria Umberto 1934

Cutest and nicest Gelateria with yummy flavours and friendly staff! If you go there, I totally recommend you try the Affogato di caffe alla crema, a must!

Canteen – “If you got bored of eating pasta all week, this Mexican restaurant was my go-to! They serve the best Margaritas and Aperol Spritz”.

G.B Bar – “If you’re around Duomo, shopping all day and in need a quick lunch-break I totally recommend you go try these sandwiches”.

I can go on and on and on about food in Milan! It is actually my favourite city for food destinations. Do not hesitate to reach out if you ever need a recommendation, I still have plenty!

Must-visit cultural spots?

Duomo

Iconic place, the Duomo in Milan is a masterpiece! I recommend you go there at night as it is empty of tourists and you can wander around easily. However, visiting its interiors is a must, so make sure you book your tickets in advance.

Spazio Maiocchi – “One of the coolest places in Milan, they always have events and gatherings happening!”

Fondazione Prada

The Fondazione Prada is first of all a beautiful and iconic building. Every time I’m in Milan I pass by to check out the new exhibitions and the permanent ones. Don’t miss Bar Luce, a café designed by Wes Anderson that feels like stepping straight into one of his films!

Armani Silos

Besides being a home to Giorgio Armani’s greatest designs, Armani Silos is an architectural masterpiece!

Best places for sundowners/roof-top places?

Darsena – “If the weather is nice, take your friends and a couple beers, and sit by the river for the most magical sunsets”.

Parco Sempione – “Parco Sempione is the perfect sundowner spot in Milan, with open green spaces, chill vibes, and a golden sunset over the Arco della Pace”.

Triennale – “At the top of the museum, is a restaurant with a gorgeous terrace. Perfect to end the end day with a beautiful sunset view!”

Best places for shopping?

Cavalli e Nastri – “My go-to place! Rarely have I seen a vintage shop so tidy & well organized, and they also have such a nice selection!”

Acne Studio – “The Flagship store in Piazza del Carmine is such a vibe!”

Nilufar Gallery – “Not really a shopping place per se, but they have the most beautiful design pieces!”

Mercatone Dell’Antiquariato Sul Naviglio Grande – “This vintage market takes place on the last Sunday of each month, and there you can find the most random cool items ever!”

Best boutique hotels to stay in?

Hotel Indigo – “The attention to details and design of this hotel are just on point!”

Room Mate Giulia – “Very Retro-Chic”.

Underrated places?

San Bernardino alle Ossa – “This small chapel is so unique and goth! Skulls are plastered all over walls and ceiling”.

Piazza Degli Affari, L.O.V.E – “This square is a symbol of Milan’s business activities and of Italian finance. The Hand is considered to be a symbol of protest against the financial world represented by the Stock Exchange”.

Coloris in Citylife – “Eggs on top of coloured metal poles, touching the sky of Milan”.

Colours laying on a planisphere structure. Blue represents the sea. Then there are the demarcated continents. Each of these colours represents ourselves, our cultures, our identities. They are dissimilar to each other. And this is exactly where their most important richness hides: diversity.

What should you avoid?

Avoid going to Duomo during high seasons, the load of tourists will stop you from really enjoying the centre.

Also, some shops close in the afternoon for the owners to relax and take a break, so make sure it is open before you go!

Must-pack items?

A good pair of sneakers & fanny pack to be able to walk freely and worry-free in the streets of Milan.

Any tips and tricks to tackle the city?

“Take the tram in Milan, it is the easiest way around and it allows you to see the city. However, if you’re able to walk, I recommend you do everything by foot. The city is just filled with amazing gems at every corner!”
