KHAMSA’s latest feature shines a light on photographers’ stellar works.

Najla Said (@najlasaid_ on Instagram)is an Egyptian photographer living in Berlin since 2021. She has been drawn to the medium from a young age, as it was a huge part of her childhood and family archive. As she grew up, she naturally felt the urge to document her life and those around her, until her interest for it solidified through her studies of Applied Arts in Cairo.

The camera became a tool for Najla to share her personal experiences and a powerful way to connect to her community. While she admires documentary photography, she found her language more through narrative and conceptual photography, as it allowed her to use the medium’s limitations to challenge her imagination and provide representation.

In KHAMSA‘s Photographer Spotlight series, we highlight some of Najla’s photos.
